So a challenge from the mindful leadership course that I am doing is to choose one relationship that I am committed to improving.
It is based on a Ted talk by motivational speaker, Brian Miller. He highlights that life is about connecting. That it is a shared experience fractured by individual perspectives. And to imagine the magic that would be created when we try to understand some one else's perspective.
I know the relationship that I want to improve is with my boss. I know that relationships with bosses are difficult for me and bring up old stories. So I have just written out a super strengths based script to use in a planned meeting.
I plan to explain that while there are many parts of the job that I love, I have been feeling frustrated by other parts. I have practiced focusing on the situation rather than the person.
I have considered challenges which may come up in the conversation (potential defensiveness which would lead to me people-pleasing and taking responsibility for ALL difficulties ever).
I am going to focus on staying mindful, to be aware if I am triggered by old stories, to try to respond rather than react and really listen to the other person's perspective.
This is fucking terrifying. However, I am so learning that life really is about connection. So here goes to trying to create some magic #gettingreal #meaningfulcommunication #braveasfuck.
